Patrick J. Hindert is Vice President of New Business Development for Independent Life. Patrick has been a leader in the structured settlement industry since 1977. Before joining Independent Life, he served as President of a national structured settlement intermediary which he owned and manage for 22 years. Patrick has also served as President and Director of the National Structured Settlement Trade Association (NSSTA) and as Executive Director of the Society of Settlement Planners (SSP).

Patrick co-authors of “Structured Settlement and Periodic Payment Judgments”, a legal treatise published by Law Journal Press and updated semi-annually since 1986, which has been utilized by NSSTA and SSP in their certification programs. He also authors Independent Life’s “Settlement Nation” blog and has been a frequent speaker at national structured settlement and settlement planning conferences.

Patrick served as keynote speaker at the first national structured settlement conference in Australia and provided expert testimony to the United States House Ways and Means Committee prior to enactment of the Periodic Payment Settlement Act of 1982. He is a member of the Ohio Bar Association, a graduate of Harvard University and the University of Michigan Law School, and a recipient of NSSTA’s CSSC certification.

Before entering the structured settlement industry, Patrick taught French and coached tennis at the Cranbrook Schools in Bloomfield Hills, Michigan and practiced transactional law in Ann Arbor, Michigan and Cincinnati, Ohio.

Patrick and his wife, Louise, reside in Warren County, Ohio where they share an active life with their four dogs, three cats and two rabbits. Their family also includes sons, Johann and Conrad, daughter-in-law, Shinobu, and grandchildren, Holden and Harlow.
