Robert M. Freedman’s practice focuses on Elder Law and Planning for Individuals with Disabilities and their families. He is a pioneer in the field of Elder Law.

Robert was a Founder and one of the first Fellows of the National Academy of Elder Law Attorneys. He was a Founder and one of the first Chairs of the Elder Law Section of the New York State Bar Association and still serves on its Executive Committee. He also serves on the Executive Committee of the Trusts and Estates Section of the New York State Bar Association where he previously chaired the Committee on the Elderly and Disabled.

Robert began working in Elder Law as a Law Student and Staff Attorney at the Institute on Law and Rights of Older Adults of the Brookdale Center on Aging in 1978. He was a staff attorney at Legal Services for the Elderly. Robert left Legal Services to assist in starting the Bet Tzedek Legal Clinic at the Cardozo School of Law of Yeshiva University which provided legal services to indigent elderly and disabled clients. In 1985, Robert founded the Law Firm of Freedman and Fish (subsequently Freedman Fish & Grimaldi LLP), one of the nation’s first Elder Law firms and a preeminent firm in the field for more than 23 years.

Robert brings 30 years of Elder Law experience to MazurCarp PC.

Robert is involved with numerous not-for-profit agencies, many working with seniors. He is on the Board of Directors of the Carter Burden Center on Aging and the Council of Senior Centers and Services and is a recipient of the Council’s Advocacy Award. He serves on Planned Giving Committees for the Arthritis Foundation and Calvary Hospice Services. He is active in the UJA/Federation of New York and is a frequent speaker at their programs.

Robert was born in Pittsfield, Massachusetts in 1954. He received his B.A. from Tufts University in 1976 and his J.D. from New York University School of Law in 1980.
