Sheldon has taken a unique path in arriving at the financial services industry. After graduating from California Maritime Academy with a B.S. Degree in Nautical Industrial Technology, he worked in the industrial marketplace for many years.
Ultimately, his love for client service led him to a career in financial services as a Protection Specialist with a major fraternal insurer; however, he found he wasn't able to service his clients fully with their limited insurance options. Sheldon enjoys helping families who are planning for retirement as well as business owners who need advice on creating an exit plan while protecting the business they have built. In 2012, Sheldon found the perfect match in Pacific Capital Resource Group, Inc. (PCRG). PCRG provides financial professionals an environment to flourish through shared resources and expert knowledge across the disciplines of insurance, investments, and strategic financial solutions.
Sheldon is extremely passionate about helping families and their children with special needs, thus focusing a significant portion of his practice on helping these families. He connects with them on a personal level with his youngest daughter having Down Syndrome. He knows the extra demands that this puts on families as well as their need for high quality planning.
Through his own experiences, Sheldon understands the advocacy needed in providing for children with special needs. He and his wife Debbie advocate on behalf of their daughter’s education and therapies, recreational programs, respite care and medical needs, to name a few. This often is an exhausting endeavor, especially for the caregiver who spends most of their time with the child.
His favorite part of the planning process is witnessing the peace of mind his clients experience as he helps them identify their goals and objectives and implements the best strategies available to attain them.
The PCRG Special Needs Resource is a group of advisers that have dedicated a portion of their practice to helping families and their children with special needs. As financial advisers with a passion of giving back to the community, we have developed a “Facilitated Conversation Program.” We have partnered with an estate attorney who has expertise with special needs law in Washington. We coordinate with facilities who provide care for families and their children with special needs and then facilitate two-hour group conversations. We discuss and answer questions concerning financial strategies and the legal framework needed to protect the interests of the family. These are safe places for families to ask what they may consider “dumb questions” about financial literacy or estate planning. Attendees often comment that they felt as if they were “not alone” in their struggles and enjoyed the informal group format. We always learn from each other and discover new resources we did not know existed.
We will schedule individual time with families who seek further assistance and needing individual attention.
