I know that a special needs trust cannot pay for food or shelter for an SSI beneficiary without affecting her benefits. But what about paying for food or shelter for an SSDI beneficiary?
A
There is no penalty for paying for someone’s food or shelter while they are on SSDI, only SSI, and if the beneficiary receives Medicare, there is no penalty there, either. However, be careful if she is on Medicaid, because some state Medicaid agencies may penalize the payment of food and shelter.
