Amanda received her B.A. magna cum laude from Goucher College and went on to graduate magna cum laude from the New England School of Law in 2009.  While in law school she served as an Editor of the New England Law Review.  During her third year, Amanda spent a semester as a law clerk for the International Criminal Court in The Hague, Netherlands for the Honorable Judge Ekaterina Trendafilova.  Amanda also had the privilege of serving as a summer clerk at the Massachusetts Supreme Judicial Court for the Honorable Justice Robert Cordy.

Amanda focuses her practice on estate planning, special needs planning, and elder law.  She enjoys working closely with clients to build a relationship of trust and address their concerns for the future.  As the sister of a young woman with intellectual disabilities Amanda is especially sensitive to the needs and concerns of clients pursuing special needs planning.  In addition to meeting clients in the office she regularly represents clients before various probate courts and Superior Courts throughout Rhode Island. Before joining Gayle’s practice in 2011 she worked as an associate for a civil litigation firm in Worcester, Massachusetts.

Amanda maintains an avid interest in Human Rights and Public International Law.  She has published articles on legal accountability for private military contractors and the implications of the privatization of prison health care.  She has served as pro bono counsel for unaccompanied minor children in state (MA and RI) and immigration court and assisted them in obtaining lawful permanent resident status.

Amanda is a member of the Rhode Island Probate and Trust Committee, Estate Planning Council of Rhode Island, the Washington County Bar Association and the Academy of Special Needs Planners.  In addition to her professional affiliations Amanda gives presentations across the state to groups on topics ranging from a broad overview of estate planning to special needs planning for families who have a child with a disability. Amanda is a past member of the Rhode Island Foundation Professional Advisory Council.  Amanda is admitted to practice in both state and federal courts in Rhode Island and Massachusetts.

I understand that by contacting a lawyer or a law firm through the Academy of Special Needs Planners, I will not create an attorney-client relationship and the message will not necessarily be treated as privileged or confidential. I also understand that if I contact a non-attorney member of the Academy, whether a financial planner, trustee or other non-attorney, that such contact does not by itself mean that the professional has been retained and that communications with the member may not be treated as privileged or confidential.
