Firm Description

Marjorie J. Brown, JD, CELA is the founding attorney and partner of Brown & Caldwell Attorneys, PC, a Life Care Planning law firm serving clients throughout North Carolina. A 1994 graduate of the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill School of Law, Marjorie brings over three decades of legal experience to her practice. Her early career included work in nonprofit law, representation of mental health practitioners, and service as in-house counsel for a nonprofit trade association before focusing her practice exclusively on elder law.

Marjorie is a Certified Elder Law Attorney (CELA) by the National Elder Law Foundation and a Board Certified Specialist in Elder Law by the North Carolina State Bar. Her practice concentrates on Medicaid and long-term care planning, estate planning, guardianships, and special needs planning, with an emphasis on guiding families through complex aging and care issues with compassion and clarity.

She is an active member of numerous professional organizations, including the North Carolina State Bar, North Carolina Bar Association, National Academy of Elder Law Attorneys (NAELA), National Elder Law Foundation, North Carolina Guardianship Association, and the American Bar Association. She is also a recurring member of the Pro Bono Honor Society.

Marjorie has demonstrated a long-standing commitment to protecting vulnerable populations and strengthening her community. She has been actively involved in the Cabarrus County Task Force for the Prevention of Elder Abuse since 2013 and served as Chair from 2015 to 2023. She also served on the Board of Directors for Coltrane LIFE Center, Inc. from 2014 to 2026, including two terms as Board President, and was a Board Member of the North Carolina Guardianship Association from 2018 to 2022.

Her community leadership extends to service with the Cabarrus County Chamber of Commerce Board of Directors (2017–2023), the Atrium Health Cabarrus Advisory Board (since 2020), and the Atrium Health Cabarrus Ethics Committee (since 2015). She is also dedicated to youth development and education, having served as a Girl Scout Leader since 2003 and as a member of the Cabarrus County Schools Budget Committee from 2013 to 2019.

Marjorie is married and the proud mother of two adult daughters, both of whom have pursued careers in the legal profession.
