Steve Cohen
Rubin and Rudman LLP
As a recent law school graduate, he found himself guiding his own family through the legal complexities of aging after his grandparents began experiencing serious health issues and cognitive decline. Supporting his mother through the challenges of caregiving opened his eyes to the profound legal needs that arise as we age—and the emotional weight these situations carry for families. That experience shaped the foundation of a career spent helping others navigate this life state with understanding, confidence, and compassion.
With more than 30 years of experience, Steven focuses his practice on advising individuals and families how to plan thoughtfully for the future, keeping in mind their unique needs and circumstances. Whether it’s making sure a client has the right documents in place to avoid becoming a burden to their loved ones, or working with “solo agers” who face specific risks as they grow older without the support of immediate family, Steven helps clients plan to “age well”—helping them clarify what that looks like for them.
He is especially gifted at explaining complex elder law and estate planning issues in accessible, practical terms, empowering clients to make informed decisions that reflect their values and goals. Steven’s work spans elder law, estate planning, special needs trust planning, trust and estate administration, and elder-related dispute resolution.
Steven also has a long-standing commitment to education and advocacy in elder law. He served as co-chair of the Boston Bar Association’s Elder and Disability Law Committee for six years and has co-authored the chapter on Nursing Home Medicaid Eligibility in Estate Planning for the Aging and Incapacitated Client in Massachusetts (MCLE).
Steven is committed to ensuring that his clients are properly prepared for the legal realities of aging so they can live with security, dignity, and peace of mind.
