Herman (Tommy) Thompson, Jr., CFP®, ChSNC®, ChFC® is a Financial Planner with Innovative Financial Group in Alpharetta, GA.  Tommy has been an investment professional since 2004, helping individuals and families achieve their financial goals through comprehensive planning and investment management. 

Throughout his career, Tommy has focused on building long-term relationships with his clients, taking the time to understand their goals and risk tolerance.  Tommy specializes in wealth management and financial planning, as well as delivering high quality service to parents with special needs dependents. 

Tommy and his team of associates are dedicated to helping his clients handle their finances with confidence.  He has developed and hosted a monthly webinar series on topics such as managing retirement income and navigating the complexities of Social Security.  As an extension of offering financial guidance to his clients, Tommy is a financial resource for media outlets, quoted in Forbes, Wall Street Journal, CBS News, USA Today, and Fox Business, among others.  Tommy is a 2024 Forbes Advisor Loans Advisory board member, joining a panel of vetted professionals who review articles, advise on content, and help support Forbes Advisor’s mission to help consumers make smarter and less stressful decisions about loans.

A proud graduate of the University of Georgia (2003), Tommy is a Certified Financial Planner™ and Chartered Financial Consultant®, holding the FINRA Series 6, 7, 63 and 65 registrations, as well as multi-state Life and Health Insurance licenses.  Tommy is dedicated to serving families with special needs dependents and obtained the Chartered Special Needs Consultant® designation, which is an accreditation designed for financial advisors who want to make a real difference in the lives of people with disabilities or special needs.  

In addition to his work as a financial planner, Tommy is active in the financial planning community.  He is a member of the Academy of Special Needs Planners®, and the Financial Planning Association®. 

Tommy enjoys spending time with his family and giving back to his community in his spare time.  He works extensively with special needs non-profits and serves on the Board of Directors for the Frazer Center. In 2007, Tommy married Dr. Amy Thompson at Corinth Baptist Church of Dekalb County; the Thompson family has been active in the church since 1950.  Tommy, Amy, and their cats (Fred and George Weasley) are residents of Lawrenceville.
